Key Responsibilities
- Monitor implementation of environmental and social commitments defined in project documentation, including ESIA, ESMP, ESAP, RAP and LRP.
- Support initiation and management of ESIA processes for new renewable energy developments, including participation in RFI and RFP stages and technical evaluation of consultants.
- Assess contractor and subcontractor compliance with Environmental and Social requirements and conduct site inspections.
- Provide technical input on contractor-prepared Environmental and Social Management Plans, procedures and method statements.
- Support investigation of environmental and social incidents and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulatory approval conditions and applicable legislation.
- Identify and assess environmental and social risks across project lifecycle phases and support development and implementation of mitigation measures.
- Maintain Environmental and Social risk registers and track corrective actions.
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of an Environmental and Social Management System aligned with ISO 14001 principles.
- Contribute to internal and external audit processes and ensure structured compliance documentation.
- Collect, analyze and consolidate environmental and social performance data and support preparation of monitoring and compliance reports.
Qualifications & Professional Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, sustainability, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4–6 years of professional experience in Environmental and Social management.
- Experience in renewable energy or large-scale infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Experience on projects financed by international financial institutions (such as ADB, AIIB, EBRD, or IFC) is considered a strong advantage.
- Practical experience in contractor environmental compliance monitoring.
- Participation in Environmental Management System audits is beneficial.
- ISO 14001 Lead Auditor qualification is an advantage.
- NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate is a plus.
- Membership with the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP) is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of ESIA and ESMP processes.
- Familiarity with ADB Safeguard Policy Statement, AIIB Environmental and Social Framework, EBRD Environmental and Social Policy, and IFC Performance Standards.
- Knowledge of Azerbaijani environmental legislation and international Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines.
- Experience supporting ISO 14001-aligned Environmental Management Systems.
Language Requirements
- Azerbaijani – Fluent
- English – Professional working proficiency (including reporting and international stakeholder communication)
Additional Information
- Regular travel to project sites within Azerbaijan is required.
- The role requires structured documentation capability, regulatory awareness, and risk-based decision-making skills.
