FROM RESEARCH TO JOURNAL SUBMISSION: A PUBLICATION SKILLS TRAINING SERIES

We are pleased to introduce a Peer-Reviewed Publication Skills Training Series designed to support researchers in Azerbaijan in preparing and publishing their work in international scientific journals.

his program aims to strengthen the research and academic writing skills of researchers whose work focuses on child development, mental health, education, social services, family wellbeing, and related behavioral or social science fields.

Participants will be guided through key components of the publication process, including:

  • Selecting an appropriate scientific journal with strong impact and thematic fit
  • Formulating clear and meaningful research questions and hypotheses
  • Writing a rigorous and coherent literature review
  • Describing scientific study design and methodology
  • Presenting statistical or qualitative research findings
  • Submitting manuscripts for peer review
  • Responding effectively to reviewers’ comments

By the end of the series, participants will be equipped with essential tools to develop high-quality manuscripts, navigate the publication process, and receive structured feedback to strengthen their work. 

The training series is conducted as part of the research initiative «Optimizing Multi-level Interventions to Improve Child Mental Health in Azerbaijan», in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the University of Chicago, Harvard University, and the National Mental Health Center (NMHC) in Baku.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • We are seeking junior and mid-career researchers in Azerbaijan who are engaged in research and motivated to publish in Q1 or Q2 international peer-reviewed journals. Applicants should meet the following criteria:

Strong English proficiency

Ability to read, understand, and work with scientific literature in English, actively participate in discussions during sessions, and prepare and submit a manuscript in an international peer-reviewed journal.

Relevant academic or professional background

Open to individuals engaged in research in any field related to child development, learning, psychosocial outcomes, family wellbeing, mental health, or behavioral science, including (but not limited to):

  • Psychology, education, or social sciences
  • School psychology or counseling services
  • Social work with children, youth, or families
  • Programs, services, or interventions for children or families

Research Engagement

  • Participants should have either an active research project or a clearly defined research plan with access to relevant data. The program is designed for those who are preparing to develop a manuscript for submission to an international peer-reviewed journal.

Eligible applicants also include doctoral/PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, and medical residents conducting research in related fields.

Basic computer literacy

  • Ability to use online platforms, document-sharing tools, and basic citation management or data analysis software.

Attendance & Completion Requirements

  • Full attendance at all training sessions, along with timely completion of monthly writing assignments to ensure steady progress on the manuscript, is required.
  • Participants who successfully complete all assignments and submit a manuscript for publication will receive a certificate of completion.
