Responsibilities:
- Select and acquire age-appropriate books, magazines, and other educational materials for the library;
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date collection;
- Catalog and classify library materials using standard systems for easy retrieval;
- Create and manage a user-friendly catalog system;
- Help students locate and select books suitable for their age and reading level;
- Conduct library orientation sessions for classes or individuals;
- Organize and participate in reading programs to encourage a love for reading;
- Create displays and promotions to highlight specific genres, authors, or themes;
- Work with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum;
- Maintain and update computer systems used for cataloging and managing library resources;
- Keep the library clean, organized, and conducive to learning.
Requirements:
Background:
- Bachelor's degree;
- Solid understanding of library principles, cataloging, classification, and information retrieval;
- Familiarity with library management systems, cataloging software, and other relevant technologies;
- Ability to leverage technology for library services, such as familiarity with digital databases and online resources, is preferred.
Skills and abilities:
- Fluency in written and spoken English;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with students and teachers;
- Ability to maintain an organized and efficient library space;
- Thoroughness in cataloging and maintaining library materials;
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff to integrate library resources into the curriculum.
- Flexibility and adaptability to evolving library trends, technology, and educational methodologies.
