Job responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate electrical engineering activities across FEED and detailed design for oil & gas, refinery, petrochemical and industrial projects, including brownfield modifications.
- Plan, assign, supervise and review the work of electrical engineers, designers and third-party engineering subcontractors, ensuring technical quality and schedule compliance.
- Develop electrical design basis, engineering specifications, equipment data sheets, material requisitions, technical scope of work and deliverable registers.
- Prepare and/or verify electrical load lists, load assessments, equipment sizing, cable sizing, voltage-drop calculations and electrical design calculations.
- Perform or coordinate power-system studies including load flow, short circuit, motor starting, protection coordination/selectivity, arc flash, harmonic and reactive-power/power-factor studies.
- Develop and review MV/LV single-line diagrams, substation and equipment layouts, cable schedules, routing and duct-bank drawings, cable-tray layouts, wiring and control schematics.
- Coordinate substation design covering MV/LV switchgear, transformers, motors, MCCs, VFDs, UPS/DC systems, emergency supplies, power-factor correction and associated auxiliary systems.
- Oversee earthing and bonding, lightning protection, area lighting, heat tracing and electrical hazardous-area requirements, including applicable studies and layouts.
- Prepare and verify electrical material take-offs (MTO/BOM), installation and termination material requirements, and inputs to procurement and cost estimates.
- Prepare technical bid evaluations (TBE), maintain technical clarification/deviation registers, assess vendor offers and provide technical recommendations for procurement.
- Review and approve vendor engineering documents within delegated authority, including drawings, data sheets, calculations, I/O lists, interface diagrams and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate electrical interfaces with Process, Mechanical, Civil, Instrumentation, DCS/PLC, EMS/SCADA, package vendors and Client engineering teams.
- Ensure designs comply with project specifications, applicable IEC/IEEE/NFPA/local standards, Client requirements and good engineering practice.
- Manage technical comments, interdisciplinary checks, document revisions and design changes, tracking closure of outstanding engineering issues.
- Participate in client, project and vendor review meetings. Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to team members.
- Provide engineering support to construction, testing and commissioning teams when required, including review of technical queries and proposed field modifications.
- Monitor electrical engineering man-hours, resource allocation and progress. Report risks, outstanding items and schedule impacts to the Engineering Manager.
- Contribute to project proposals, estimates, technical reports, engineering schedules, constructability reviews and lessons learned.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of experience in industrial, oil & gas or EPC engineering projects.
- Strong technical proficiency in MV/LV electrical power systems, electrical studies, design deliverables and engineering standards.
- Experience leading design teams and coordinating vendors, subcontractors and interdisciplinary interfaces.
- Working knowledge of ETAP, or equivalent study software and common engineering/design applications.
- Effective technical communication, report writing, problem-solving and client coordination skills.
