We are looking for candidates for a IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Homeroom Teacher role to join us at SABAH.school!
Role Summary:
- This role involves implementing the IB PYP curriculum through inquiry-based, transdisciplinary learning that supports students’ academic, social, and emotional development. The teacher fosters student agency, critical thinking, and a love of learning while differentiating instruction to meet diverse needs. The role also includes ongoing assessment, collaboration with colleagues and parents, and active contribution to a positive, inclusive, and internationally minded school culture.
Requirements for the candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
- Teaching certification or qualification, in accordance with regional requirements and IB PYP standards.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Experience teaching in an IB PYP school, or a strong understanding of the PYP framework, is highly desirable.
- Solid knowledge of inquiry-based learning, transdisciplinary teaching, and international education.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and intercultural competence skills.
- Strong commitment to continuous professional growth and a genuine passion for nurturing young learners within the IB PYP context.
Curriculum Implementation (IB PYP)
- Implement the IB PYP curriculum by designing and delivering inquiry-based, transdisciplinary lessons.
- Facilitate learning experiences aligned with PYP key concepts, transdisciplinary themes, and the learner profile.
- Encourage student inquiry, critical thinking, reflection, and active engagement in learning.
Assessment and Reporting
- Assess student progress using a range of formative and summative assessment strategies.
- Use assessment data to inform instruction, adapt teaching approaches, and provide meaningful feedback to students and parents.
- Prepare and conduct student-led conferences as part of the reporting process.
Classroom Environment and Student Wellbeing
- Create a supportive classroom environment that promotes students’ social and emotional development, in line with IB learner attributes.
- Foster values such as empathy, open-mindedness, and respect for others.
- Provide guidance and support to address students’ social and emotional needs.
Differentiation and Inclusion
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, interests, and learning styles of all students.
- Collaborate with learning support specialists to support students with diverse learning needs.
- Foster student agency, independence, and ownership of learning.
Language and Literacy Development
- Promote language development and literacy skills, supporting communication in multiple languages where appropriate.
- Encourage a love of reading and writing through classroom libraries and engaging literacy activities.
- Support language acquisition for students with diverse linguistic backgrounds.
Parent and Community Engagement
- Maintain open and regular communication with parents regarding student progress and learning.
- Collaborate with parents to support student development, including participation in school events and workshops.
Professional Growth and Collaboration
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to the IB PYP philosophy, pedagogy, and best practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues in professional learning communities to enhance teaching and learning.
