Department: School of Design & Architecture
The School of Design & Architecture at ADA University
The School of Design and Architecture (SDA) is outlined in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano in the framework of the Italy-Azerbaijan University initiative. It offers bachelor's programs in Interior Design, Architecture, Urban Planning and Communication Design. ADA University is intertwined with the country’s plans, where economic and cultural growth lead the way. The urban areas are growing, and the country landscape and profile are evolving. The School of Design and Architecture will share the polytechnic approach to Design, Architecture, and Urban Planning. Graduates will gain foundational disciplinary knowledge and practical experience, thanks to fundamental courses and the learning-by-doing educational approach that pursues up-to-date development lines in project-based design studios. The School of Design and Architecture offers an international level of study suitable for entering the job market as a junior architect, urban planner, interior or communication designer. More information about SDA can be found at www.ada.edu.az/en/schools/sda

Teaching Position Details in Building Physics
Programme: Bachelor of Architecture
Year: 2nd
Course: Building Physics
Semester: First
Start dates: September 2026
Description of the Disciplinary Area:
The field of Building Physics contributes to the improvement of skills in the transformation of energy and its interaction with architectural works and the landscape. In the three-year teaching experience, in the context of the knowledge and methodologies supporting the architectural project, the student acquires a detailed critical awareness of the different aspects that influence the design choices both on the front of the building of new
constructions and on the front of interventions on the built environment. In Building Physics, the student also acquires the ability to identify and manage the variables that characterize the relationship between the built environment and energy-ecologically friendly comfort and to orient design and construction practices towards solutions characterized by a high level of sustainable energy efficiency.
Description of the course
Building Physics
Building physics is that part of knowledge that studies energy efficiency problems in buildings
and environmental comfort (thermal-hygrometric, acoustic, and visual). Its field of action is not
limited to the study of buildings but also extends to the external environment at various territorial
scales.
The Course's general objective is the study of the energy-environmental performance of buildings
and the consequent connections with urban, architectural, and plant design. The topics necessary
for understanding the interaction between the external environment - building - internal
environment, the exploitation of energy sources and the satisfaction of comfort are covered.
Basic knowledge required to teach the course:
- Ability to guide students through developing following skills:
- general notions of technical physics, energy in its different forms, principles of conservation of mass and energy;
- principles of thermodynamics and cycles for energy production;
- heat transmission conduction, convection and radiation; climate as a project element;
- thermo-hygrometric comfort, psychrometry and humid air diagram;
- building thermos-physics, thermal control design (passive systems);
- calculation of the winter and summer heat load;
- plant technologies for reducing energy consumption;
- use of renewable sources;
- criteria for the building and plant design of nearly zero-energy buildings and zero-energy buildings;
- principles of natural lighting and lighting engineering;
- principles of natural ventilation and overall building performances;
- analysis of the main environmental issues and constraints, for sustainable approach;
- Ability to communicate to students the tools necessary to verify the energy behavior of the buildings they will have to design or redevelop.
