School of Design & Architecture
The School of Design and Architecture is seeking local candidates based in Baku for the position of Assistant / Associate Professor in Structures to teach Structural Analysis and Design of Architecture I (Statics). Classes will start in March 2027 and continue through May 2027.
Brief information about the School of Design & Architecture at ADA University
The School of Design and Architecture (SDA) was established in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano as part of the Italy-Azerbaijan University initiative. It will offer bachelor's, master's and non-degree certificate programs in Design, Architecture and Urban Planning. ADA University is intertwined with the country’s plans, where economic and cultural growth lead the way. Urban areas are growing, and the country's landscape and profile are evolving.
SDA will share the polytechnic approach to Design, Architecture, and Urban Planning. Graduates will gain foundational disciplinary knowledge and practical experience, thanks to fundamental courses and the learning-by-doing educational approach that pursues up-to-date development lines in project-based design studios. The School of Design and Architecture offers an international level of study suitable for entering the job market as a junior architect or designer.
More information about SDA can be found at: www.ada.edu.az/en/schools/sda
Why apply for this position
The School of Design and Architecture is the place for continuous education and innovation, where students will develop the knowledge and skills to contribute to the country’s goal. Indeed, SDA will raise a new generation of Designers, Architects, and Urban Planners who will participate in the country’s progress, sharing and shaping the vision for it.
For this purpose, SDA will collaborate with public institutions to promote coordinated efforts toward progress, indicating priorities, developing projects, and anticipating future scenarios. Furthermore, the School of Design and Architecture will collaborate with local communities to promote the country’s development beyond Baku and with global partners to reach a multicultural environment and international status.
Due to this ambitious program, joining SDA will be an opportunity for academic growth and engagement within a new international community of designers and architects.
Brief description of responsibilities:
- Principal responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in Architecture. Candidates must have a potential or demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, scholarly research and publication in peer-reviewed journals, and academic engagement.
Qualifications:
- Candidates for Assistant Professor must have a Ph.D. in Design or Architecture from an accredited institution, obtained by August 2026.
- Candidates for Associate Professor must have a Ph.D. and evidence of quality scholarship.
Responsibilities and Requirements:
The Course's general objective is to provide the basic tools to deal with static analysis of a structure. It aims to lead the student to a first level of understanding of the behavior of the different structural typologies to motivate their choice within the project.
Ability to teach structural skills necessary in the architectural scenario, among the following main topics:
- loads: the mechanical concept of vector, the concept of force, the concept of torque, the concentrated load, the distributed load, and the load density;
- vector operations and invariant operations;
- the structural models: the material point, the rigid body, the three-hinged arch and the articulated body;
- the laws of classical mechanics; the equilibrium of the material point;
- flat rigid displacements;
- constraints;
- the kinematics of the rigid body;
- the equilibrium of the rigid body in the plane: conditions of determinate, indeterminate and impossible equilibrium;
- the cardinal equations of equilibrium statics;
- the reduced postulate of internal pressures and tensions;
- constraint reactions and internal actions;
- the equilibrium of rigid articulated systems: the calculation of the equilibrium of flat articulated systems composed of rigid rods in isostatic conditions: the three-hinged arch and the closed ring, the concept of partial equation;
- constraint reactions and internal actions.
