About the role:
Bahar Energy Operating Company (BEOC), a SOCAR Group entity, is seeking a Drilling Manager to lead and manage all drilling and completion activities for offshore and onshore field redevelopment projects in the Caspian Sea. The role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of drilling operations across all project phases, while maintaining compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, approved budgets, and schedules.
Key accountabilities:
- Lead and promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with HSE, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Plan, manage, and oversee all offshore and onshore drilling and completion operations.
- Develop long-term drilling strategies, rig plans, and resource forecasts aligned with project objectives.
- Select drilling rigs and service providers based on technical, HSE, and commercial evaluations.
- Manage drilling budgets, cost control, bid evaluations, and contractor performance.
- Ensure effective risk assessment, hazard identification, mitigation measures, and well control readiness.
- Oversee rig inspections, audits, and acceptance testing prior to operations.
- Monitor daily drilling and completion activities, optimizing performance, efficiency, and cost.
- Ensure contractors and service providers perform in line with agreed KPIs and continuous improvement targets.
- Manage drilling-related service contracts including directional drilling, drilling fluids, cementing, logging, and casing running.
- Provide technical leadership for complex wells, including deep, horizontal, HPHT, and ERD wells.
- Coordinate drilling equipment, materials, vendors, and logistics to support uninterrupted operations.
- Develop and lead high-performing drilling teams through coaching, mentoring, and succession planning.
- Support clear communication, collaboration, and accountability across all drilling-related teams.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in drilling engineering, rig supervision, well planning, completions, and/or well interventions.
- Proven experience leading offshore and/or onshore drilling campaigns.
- Strong knowledge of well design, drilling fluids, casing design, well control, and completion engineering.
- Solid understanding of API, IADC, IOGP standards, and applicable local regulations.
- Experience with drilling engineering software such as Landmark, WellCat, Compass, or WellPlan.
- Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capability in multidisciplinary environments.
- Effective communication skills with contractors, partners, and management.
- High proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Valid IWCF Well Control certification.
