Job Purpose
To form part of the Finance Team in country, overall responsible for the assisting in the running of the Company Finance Department, responsible for overseeing financial processes and systems which are vital for the efficient running of the Company. Establishing an effective relationship with country functional teams and managers. Ensuring accurate financial data and reporting as well as meeting local reporting requirements.
Key Duties and Accountabilities
Management and Financial Reporting
Responsible for assisting the Finance/Commercial Advisor and Deputy General Director to ensure the preparation, accuracy, reliability and timeliness of the financial management information relating to that company/country. They are expected to understand and challenge the business, ensuring that future business changes are planned for. They are required to ensure that the Finance Department meet the reporting timetable/deadlines set by the Corporate Office and the Company Board.
They are responsible for ensuring that the systems and procedures in place within the company/country are operating, meet and comply with ‘Corporate Guidelines’. They will form an integral part of the team that will effectively ensure that the Company maximizes its income from the operating contracts in that company/country.
There is a requirement to ensure that the current systems in place within the company/country meet the requirements for both local and corporate reporting purposes.
Budgeting, Forecasting
On an ongoing basis, they will assist the Finance/Commercial Advisor and Deputy General Director in producing proper budgets and forecasts.
Financial Data & Cash Flow Statement & Debt Management
They are responsible for reviewing and producing financial data / cash flow statements to monitor the financial performance. This will include a weekly cash flow planning which will be monitored by Company Offshore BU Controller. They will ensure that the various services (drilling, catering, other services / reimbursable) are promptly invoiced and will follow up on a day-to-day basis overdue debts.
Staff Management and Development
They will assist the Finance/Commercial Advisor and Deputy General Director in the planning of activities in each of the finance sections, ensuring that resources are deployed in an efficient and cost-effective basis. They will ensure that the finance department has adequate staffing and resources in place and will review as required to deliver optimum staff efficiency.
They are responsible for the implementation of accounting, financial and reporting processes of both local management and the Company corporate office’. This will include the use of SAP locally (finance system) which will be used for both local and corporate reporting – where installed.
They are responsible for ensuring that the financial processes and systems used in Company are operating and comply with Company Corporate Guidelines. In respect of financial systems (SAP, HRB etc.) and processes, they will work with, suggest and support the Company BU Controller in this area.
Balance Sheets
They will review balance sheet items (including trade debtor, creditor etc.) as directed by the Finance/Commercial Advisor and Deputy General Director and assist in the preparation of the legal entity statutory returns.
Tax and Local Returns
They are responsible to ensure that all tax and statutory returns are completed in accordance with all local requirements. Responsibility includes application and distribution of employee tax certificates. They will be required to liaise and communicate with the Finance/Commercial Advisor and Deputy General Director and Group Tax Manager on these matters.
Audit Liaison
They are required to work with and liaise with the both the external Group and Internal Auditors as appropriate.
- Compliance
They will assist in the financial controls, compliance and driving local awareness in anti-corruption and bribery requirements.
- Country Support
They will provide support, advice and financial analysis to the local management. Including financial modelling for commercial tenders.
Planning and Organizing
This position requires planning and organizing own workload and that of the local finance team, being deadline conscious and have the ability to work well in time sensitive situations. Must also be a team player and be able to demonstrate maximum flexibility.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with own and other teams in order to support and/or deliver requirements.
Internal & External Relationships
Local finance team to support them in their daily duties and communicate updates regularly.
Company finance teams including Tax and Corporate Accounting as and when information is required.
Work with and liaise with internal auditors as and when required.
Local Functional management
Work with and liaise with external auditors as and when required.
Work with and liaise with external consultants as and when required, such as tax advisors.
Most Challenging Aspects of the Job
Being responsible for the development and efficient working of the local finance team. Ensuring availability of department resources for the completion of finance department tasks, as directed by Finance/Commercial Advisor and Deputy General Director.
Being able to manage workload in order to meet tight deadlines, remaining calm under pressure.
Being able to communicate effectively with all levels of contact, ensuring results are delivered and good relationships are established and maintained.
Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a Business Discipline.
A Chartered Accountant is mandatory (An internationally recognized Accountancy Degree – Chartered Institute of Management Accountants CIMA/CGMA/CPA)
