Principal Function (Job Summary)

  • The Senior Chemist is responsible for the operation of the laboratory, ensuring that facility is operated and maintained to ASTM, IP, GOST, API standards and is carried out in accordance with company’s QA/HSE/ Compliance policies.

Major Duties and Responsibility Areas

Responsible for:

  • Perform and supervise chemical analyses of crude oil, petroleum products, fuels, lubricants and other related samples in accordance with approved test methods and laboratory procedures.
  • Conduct analyses in accordance with ASTM, IP, GOST and other applicable international, national and internal laboratory standards and procedures.
  • Review analytical results for accuracy, consistency and compliance with applicable specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory analytical instruments and equipment.
  • Support method implementation, verification, validation and improvement in accordance with laboratory requirements.
  • Prepare and review test reports, worksheets, analytical records and other technical documentation.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of laboratory equipment, reference materials, chemicals and consumables.
  • Perform quality control checks and monitor analytical performance using appropriate Quality Control (QC) and Statistical Quality Control (SQC) techniques.
  • Monitor quality control charts, identify trends, out-of-control conditions and analytical deviations, and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Participate in investigations of non-conforming work, analytical discrepancies, customer complaints and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory quality management system requirements, including relevant principles of ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Maintain accurate and complete laboratory records and ensure data integrity and traceability of analytical results.
  • Use LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) for sample registration, test assignment, result entry, review and reporting.
  • Provide technical guidance and day-to-day support to Chemists and Laboratory Technicians.
  • Assist with training, competency assessment and technical development of laboratory personnel.
  • Participate in internal audits, external audits, proficiency testing (PT) and interlaboratory comparison activities.
  • Support the development and review of laboratory procedures, work instructions and risk assessments.
  • Identify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, analytical quality and turnaround time.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals, petroleum products and laboratory waste in accordance with HSE requirements.
  • Perform other duties related to laboratory operations as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
  • Demonstrate commitment to health, safety and the environment.
  • Ensure that laboratory is kept clean and tidy
  • In case of any incident report immediately to the responsible person
  • Use the correct PPE

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Education - University graduate.
  • Professional Qualifications - Chemistry Degree. 
  • Experience - Minimum of 3-year experience in a chemical analytical laboratory.
