JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency within the instrumentation and maintenance department. The Instrumentation Technician will oversee the audit and review of field instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and system performance activities, ensuring they align with the company’s HSE policies and global industry standards. The role involves reviewing and verifying compliance with maintenance protocols, safety procedures, and operational procedures for various instrumentation equipment, including remote-operated valves, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and control systems. Additionally, the specialist will evaluate work performance through SAP, troubleshoot operational malfunctions, and collaborate with engineers and supervisors for continuous improvement. The position supports the plant's operational integrity and plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy of equipment maintenance logs, work orders, and safety compliance records.
JOB DUTIES
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to and ensure all safety regulations, policies, and standards are followed in all operational activities. Promote a strong safety culture in accordance with HSE requirements.
- Work Execution: Ensure the efficient execution of scheduled work, focusing on meeting deadlines and adhering to operational priorities. Regularly assess work progress and escalate any delays or issues that may affect project completion.
- Resource Management: Manage and allocate resources efficiently, ensuring that the required tools, materials, and personnel are available for scheduled tasks.
- Field Instrumentation Maintenance: Oversee and perform maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting on field instrumentation and control equipment. Ensure optimal performance of instrumentation systems.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, calibration logs, and safety compliance documentation. Provide necessary technical information for spare parts procurement and inventory management.
- Quality Assurance: Enforce the integration of the Quality Management System (QMS) into all processes. Ensure that the work meets the company's quality standards, legal requirements, and customer expectations. Report any non-conformities or deviations to the Maintenance team.
- Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement and reliability by identifying opportunities for enhancing operational processes. Implement corrective actions based on feedback.
- Collaboration: Work closely with plant management, engineers, and other teams to ensure smooth operations and resolve any technical issues related to instrumentation and control systems.
- Training & Development: Stay updated with the latest technical knowledge and safety practices. Participate in regular training sessions and promote the development of team members.
REQUIREMENTS
Functional
Technical Expertise:
- Instrumentation and Control: Extensive experience in field instrumentation maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and control system operations (DCS, PLC, ESD).
- Field Devices: Knowledge of pressure, level, flow, temperature instruments, final control elements (MOVs, solenoids, actuators), and their maintenance.
- Troubleshooting & Calibration: Skilled in troubleshooting instrumentation issues, calibrating sensors, transmitters, and ensuring operational accuracy.
System Knowledge & Protocols:
- Communication Protocols: Proficient in HART, Modbus, Profibus, Vnet/IP for system diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Software & Tools: Experienced with SAP GUI/Fiori, Windows OS, MS Office, field communicators, multimeters, and calibrators for maintenance tasks.
Safety & Standards Compliance:
- Functional Safety: Knowledge of IEC 61508, IEC 61511 functional safety standards.
- Safety Management: Experience working within safety management systems to maintain safe operational practices.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Record Keeping: Proficient in documenting maintenance activities, work orders, and calibration logs.
- Procurement & Reporting: Ability to generate technical reports and provide data for spare part procurement.
Other:
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, control system diagrams, and wiring schematics.
- Willing to work in shift rotations and perform tubing installation tasks as needed

Education and experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent in Process Automation, Instrumentation, or related technical field.
- Additional certifications in Yokogawa Centum VP, Siemens S7, RSLogix, CAMS, or CompEx are an asset.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience of working in Petro-Chemical Industry
- Previous technician experience in field instrumentation maintenance
- Experience working with Third Party vendors and/or contractors
- Experience with maintenance databases and data management
- Advanced knowledge of Azerbaijani and English
- Knowledge of Russian is an asset
