Overview
The Senior Concept Development Specialist plays a critical role in maturing early-stage oil and gas opportunities into technically sound, economically robust, and executable development concepts. This role ensures SOCAR’s relevant interests are represented in Non-Operated Assets accordingly.
This position requires strong multidisciplinary coordination with subsurface, drilling, operations, and commercial teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Applies strong engineering judgment to review (or develop where as applicable) oil and gas field development concepts across identification, screening, and evaluation phases
- Review Basis of Design (BoD) for upstream production facilities, subsea tie-backs, pipelines, processing units, or brownfield expansion projects.
- Ensures concepts adhere to engineering standards, regional regulations, and oil & gas industry benchmarks
- Reviews and approves deliverables such as conceptual layouts, equipment sizing, flow assurance studies, and preliminary cost estimates
- Screens alternative solutions based on technical feasibility, capex/opex estimation, constructability, operability, and environmental impact.
- Evaluates opportunities and alternative development scenarios
- Identifies value levers
- In collaboration with commercial discipline, supports development of business cases by integrating technical evaluations with economic assessments
- Conducts structured concept appraisal aligned with company stage-gate criteria
- Presents concept selection documentation—including technical rationale, cost and schedule outcomes, and key risks—to management and decision review boards.
- Reviews decision support packages prepared by Operators including Concept Select Reports, technical notes and solution recommendations.
- Develops scopes of work for conceptual studies where applicable
- Manages engineering consultants and contractors
- Works closely with subsurface, drilling, production, operations, commercial and other relevant disciplines to ensure integrated concept development.
Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Process, Petroleum, Mechanical, or related).
- 8–15+ years in oil & gas development planning, concept engineering, facilities engineering, or field development.
- Experience with Project Concept Development, Concept Select, Pre-FEED, FEED stages.
- Proven ability to manage third-party engineering contractors.
- Strong communication and technical reporting skills.
