Key details about the role and the candidate:
- This onshore position involves full responsibility for managing drilling operations, ensuring safety compliance, performance
- delivery, and effective coordination with both on-site teams and support departments. The Rig Manager will report to the
- Operations Manager and ensure any drilling activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company and client standards.
You and the role:
- We seek an experienced Rig Manager with strong leadership in safety-critical environments, extensive knowledge of drilling operations and equipment, and a proven ability to drive performance improvements and meet key operational targets. The ideal candidate has extensive cyber rig and supervisory drilling experience, strong technical expertise across well operations, and a proven track record in leading diverse teams within safety-critical environments.
Primary responsibilities:
- Manages the operations assigned to them and ensure that they meet contractual quality and performance criteria
- Supervises those to whom they delegate responsibility, and to ensure the effective operation of supporting services under their control or provided by departments within Company.
- Ensures that all well programmes are executed properly, efficiently, safely and in accordance with Company and Client guidelines
- Liaises at all times with their Operations Managers on all key issues in a timely and appropriate manner
- Conducts technical appraisals of all work programmes, ensuring that any improvements, concerns or remedial actions required, are brought to the attention of the client
- Provides advice and guidance to Senior Offshore Supervision
- Ensures accurate recording and reporting of all problem events including accidents/incidents
- Takes an active role in pre-spud and end-of-well meetings, ensuring that complete reporting in undertaken and that all learning points are brought to the attention of the Operations Manager and the client
- Ensures the installations are maintained in accordance with Industry standards and that all mandatory and other Operating Certificates are maintained up to date
- Advises management on matters affecting the interpretation of the contracts affecting installations under their control and to deal with day-to-day contractual matters as directed
- Reviews the performance evaluation of the personnel on the installation in terms of contracted requirements
- Liaises and supports Offshore Supervisors in terms of human resource utilisation and development
- Initiates investigations and remedial actions on equipment, structural or system failures affecting the installations under his authority
- Ensures the timely requisition of all materials, equipment and services to the correct specification for the execution of well operations
- Ensures control and effective tracking of Company moveable assets assigned to the installations
Experience:
- Cyber rig experience
- Proven experience (office and field based) advising or working at a supervisory level in drilling operations. E.g. Drilling Engineer, DSV
- Understanding of drilling and completion design / implementation / equipment including that provided by service companies. E.g. Wireline, logging, coiled tubing, fluids, casing, cementing, directional drilling and MWD/LWD etc.
- Experience in working with and supervising diverse teams of people in a safety critical environment

- Highly focused on performance delivery, with regular review with team and client to improve performance and deliver KPI’s, reduce flat times and deliver wells within AFE.
- Diverse knowledge and able to work closely with support functions such as HSE, Maintenance, Supply Chain Management, HR and Commercial.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to writing detail reports on Performance improvement investigations, develop presentations and deliver it during reviews both internally and externally with clients.
- Commercial and financial awareness, with ability to monitor and control daily Opex spend, optimize CAPEX spend, review dashboards on rig performance metrics online and deliver to periodically set KPI’s.
- Understanding and experience of practices, procedures involved in logistics and procurement
Minimum Qualifications:
- HNC/HND in an oilfield related subject or valid experience-based training and qualifications
- Rig site experience in a position managing teams for a drilling contractor, operator or service company.
- Well control for supervisors
