Key details about the role and the candidate
The role requires a highly skilled individual with 5-10 years of experience in a discipline design role, preferably within an Oilfield Operator, Drilling Contractor, or Service Company. The candidate should possess a strong technical background, ideally holding a Degree or a minimum of an HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. Expertise in using the latest versions of AutoCAD, Autodesk Recap, and MS Office applications is essential. Additionally, the ideal candidate should be proficient in design practices, project planning, and compliance with industry standards, ensuring high-quality outputs for both Turan and its clients.

You and the role
In this role, you will be responsible for executing various project activities and ensuring that all design tasks align with the agreed processes and procedures. You will serve as a key representative of Turan, engaging with clients and suppliers professionally, while also collaborating with cross-functional teams to address design challenges and provide innovative solutions. Your focus will be on ensuring the competence of design personnel and identifying areas for improvement, including addressing operational and maintenance issues in design. The role also requires timely and efficient progress monitoring to ensure all projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

Primary responsibilities

  • Knowledge of, and compliance with, Turan Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of, and compliance with, client, industry and international specifications and standards. Assurance that personnel under the Lead Engineers control comply with relevant documents.
  • Production of cost-effective design solutions that are fit for purpose, safe and add value to both Turan and the Client. Motivation of discipline personnel to do similarly.
  • Surveys, both onshore and offshore, to determine information to allow execution of work scopes.
  • Assurance of competence of design personnel under the Senior Designer’s control. Identification of personnel shortfalls and submission of proposal to the Lead Discipline Designer for solutions such as training, coaching or replacement.
  • Identification of design scope of work required to undertake a project/job. Estimation of deliverables, manpower and time required to execute the scope of work.
  • Input to project plans and schedules
  • Early identification to the Lead Engineer of areas of concern during the course of any project or study with necessary corrective action identified.
  • Ensuring operational and maintenance issues are addressed in the design. Seeking input from operations and maintenance personnel and, if beneficial, carrying out presentations to site personnel of changes to their installation.
  • Raising requisitions for purchase of engineered items and services, as directed by the Lead Engineer.
  • Monitoring progress of work and achieving completion within the agreed schedule and budget. Reporting progress to the Lead Engineer as per Turan’s systems and procedures.
  • Checking of documents created by own discipline, e.g. drawings, bills of materials.
  • Identification of increase or reduction in scope of work and advising the Lead Engineer accordingly.
  • Follow discipline procedures for document control and use and retention of check prints / IDC comments prints.
  • Raising purchase requisitions for projects managed by the Asset Integrity Team
  • Demonstration of safe approach in design and working practices, following the objectives of the Office and project specific Health, Safety and Environmental Plans.
  • Encouragement of attention to safety in personnel under the Lead Engineer’s control
  • Awareness and understanding of the business drivers within the Turan / Client relationship and how these can be influenced by innovative designs and fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Input and agreement of cost estimates relating to construction function.
  • Timely input into deviation from original project budget.
  • Execute all project activities and ensure that the project work scope is executed in accordance with the agreed Processes and Procedures.
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships within Turan, bp Wells Team, Engineering Contractor, and any third-party contractors engaged to perform work within project sphere of influence.
  • Adherence to the Turan Systems and procedures.
  • Keeping up to date with technical developments, client, national and international standards and legislative requirements related to the role.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all supervised personnel are aware of continuous improvement issues and kept abreast of new technology.
  • Representation of Turan with Clients and Suppliers / Vendors in a professional manner as required.

Experience

  • Preferably experience of 3d Laser Survey Techniques.
  • Proven experience (5-10 years) in discipline design role with an Oilfield Operator, Drilling Contractor or Service Company
